How to Weather Leather*

A fellow highstreet-er and I had a 20 minute long coversation on how to pull of a leather pencil skirt to work. TA-DAA this is how it is done lovies!

It honestly takes a lot of class and an eye for piecing things together to avoid looking like an extra on "Naughty Secretaries Gone Wild" when you wear a leather pencil skirt . This outfit is sophisticated, multilayered and so insanely cool. It's spot on and trendy without looking cliché. We love how people manage to pull of trends like leather, animal print and studs in one outfit and still come out looking unique and special.

Good Job, you little angel puff of high street fashion you.

Camel Cape

Hi...how are you all? Did you miss us? We missed you. But now, if you reading this dont walk RUN and go get yourself a camel hued cape. WE are obsessed with cape trend, and getting it in an ever so fashionable neutral like camel will make it a super functional peice. The fab thing is you can totally mix and match it with just about anything, when your central peice is in this color. Camel is awesome, camel is strong, camel can totally take you above and beyond. YAY camel...we heart you and this beautiful girl with the awesome sense of mixing highstreet items (this cape) with stolen high end from her mom...teehee.

Houndstooth Thursday

We are fully aware that crucial members of highstreetq8 team (i.e me) have turned completely insane. It has become SO normal for us to just SNAP pictures of RANDOM people, that we have lost the ability to gage how it may be a little creepy to some. Spotted this AMAZING houndstooth cropped jacket on this gorgeous lady at a local Starbucks in Kuwait, we actually just stopped talking and snapped the picture. After people pointing out how utterly WEIRD that was, I went up introduced myself and why I was snapping away like a stalker. She sent us these detail shots, thank god she didn't think we were TOOOO weird (what you don't know, cant hurt you).
Top to toe high street fant-abolousness, this girl rocks the fashion Kasbah.
In other news, I want to introduce a new word into everyones vernacular (sorry toons)
It's called WADDLES and it stands for AWESOMENESS.

teehee.

Hijab in the City

A fashionable Muhajaba* working in london proves that you can be a devout Muslim and a fashionista at the same time! A few months ago, we blogged about a an amazing friend of ours who happens to be both religious and a huge George Michal fan, which resulted in the coolest prayer thoub (moo moo-esque dress with attached head cover used whilst praying) we have EVER SEEN. Again, here is a lovely reader who has taken wearing the Hijab (traditional head scarf) as a very serious and spiritual step in her life, but has not let it rob her of the simple pleasure of expressing herself through fashion! As a PR & CSR specialist working in London, this Saudi woman makes us so proud, in so many ways! She get's compliments from people on the street that ask her what she's wearing! Back of peeps on the street, this spiritual fashion guru is OURS! :)

Brighten up your Work Day

J'ai un Fashion Work Crush. There a few girls at my office, that really REALLY bring it when they get dressed in the morning. Here is a great little casual work outfit spotted on an adorable chica, firstly the best part of her outfit (her multi colored scarf tied in a bow around her pixie haircut) is not visible but really completes the look. Secondly...um SHOE OBSESSION. Such a comfy and cool work option (unlike my 5 inch heels...why did the seem like such a good idea in the morning?).
She also did a little do-it yourself job on her tshirt, and cut a little of the end because it was too long. Thanks for brightening up our day fashionista in head to toe high street nonetheless!

We almost NEVA-EVA

We almost neva-eva post what we are wearing...but we really love our casual Thursday's look...we also love clogs, shirts with Karl Lagerfeld on them, and blazers that make us look thinner then we are. Also...we love two or three finger rings, because they make typing near impossible...hence providing us with an extra "work day" challange. But we figured...since so many of you put yourselves out there for us...we shall share as well! Hope you love it as much as we love you!

Best thing about working?

Ok so I started working.
In like a corporation.
Allow me to cry...
Ok I am done. After succesfully freaking everyone around my 4by4foot cubicle hell.
So there are few cool things about this job:
1. a 30% discount at topshop and H&M and starbucks and pinkberry...(WOOHOO!)
2. The ability to wear casual chic workwear such as this, and the money leftover from the 30% discount will allow me to buy stuff from cute little boutiques such as The Yard in Kuwait1
Scarf: American retro
Top: Joseph

Pants with vintage gold buttons: The Yard (www.theyard-kw.com)
Bracelets and ring: The Yard (www.theyard-kw.com)

-more on our cubicle hell later, for now boss is giving me dirty looks.

Tuesday Morning Pick Me UP!

IF you woke up early this fine Tuesday morning, and helped yourself to a healthy dosage of Highstreetq8 (good boys and girls) then this is your reward! A perfect gem of an outfit fit for you corporate 9-to-5ers (we envy you your bank accounts, yet not so much the waking up at 7 am thing).
This the kind of outfit that would look as elegant now, as it would 10 years from now. Just timeless and classy. Her nude/camel palette made us feel cool (as in temperature), while the loveliness of a high end bag and scarf made us feel cooler (as in cool by association for snapping her pics).
p.s this lovely, respectable, well versed, high profile banker asked us to point your attention to the shoe and claimed "LET THEM NOTE THE SUFFICENT TOE CLEAVAGE!"
.... le sigh. We love our highstreet interactions almost as much as we hope you love reading about them.
Off to bed... say good morning to the corporate world for us....and GET US A JOB!

Just simple, stripe-y shirt with awesome shoulder appliques, pencil skirt, and a pair of comfy black heels but WAIT what's this? This girl LOVES her accessories....taking a swarovski necklace and turning it into a cool anklet and layering awesome bracelets help to set this outfit apart from your regular worker bee humdrum. Stripe-y shirt girl whom we spotted out outside of Pizzetta...you are the sunlight of our boring monday!

We HEART Brazil

Ok so A FEW THINGS WE NEED TO CLARIFY.
a. We are not talking football related love, unless the hotness of Kaka (hahahah..."kaka") is in question.
b. We know this is super low quality image, which doesn't do this girl or dress justice but it is worth it for WHAT we are about to tell you...
HUIS CLOS
Is an awesome, Brazilian Sao Paolo fashion house created by ClĂ´ Orozco whom we LOVE because she so didn't study fashion but managed to be so passionate about something that she elevated it to the form of perfection.
You know that girl you see, that everyone keeps telling you is sooo beautiful and you look at her and your like "huh dont see what the big deal is?". Then she smiles, tells a few jokes and you find yourself falling more and more in love with her every second? If this clothing line were a GIRL it would be HER! You find things like this dress which has a seemingly 3aaadi silhoute, but with to die for details.
Please check out this clothing line, which I know is sometimes available in Kuwait via M3rath (exhibitions). Clothes are beautiful, simple, deconstructed at times, airy, light and perfect for Kuwait sensibilities.

Workwear Chic-Downtown Lebanon

Walking in the rain, in downtown Lebanon we spotted her. Her, because her smile, her little bow hair band, her personality shown in every inch of this undeniably understated yet adorable work outfit. She laughed when we asked her "highstreetq8 fashion shoot time" and said something about not looking good today. We choked and said, "WE BEG TO DIFFER HOT STUFF". She quickly became very proud of her outfit (and so are we), it's quirky creativity tinged with the cutest feminine touches (do you notice the cute floral lining on her shirt?), her favorite thing is her little clutch. We think we can't decide what is our favorite. Lovely lady, our only regret is that we didn't hug you for your awesome creativity.

Work Color

A few posts back, Highstreet commented on a girl who had used a white Longchamps bag as an everyday bag and for us that redefiened the purse. We are once again confronted with this lovely "pop" of our personal style bubble. When one wakes up in the morning, faced with the delicious task of figuring out what to wear to work, one rarely thinks that bright red pants fits into our workwear vernacular. But it does, oh so deliciously, it does. We want red pants now. And we want to wear them to work (ahem...once we find a >job<).
So clean , and crisp and fresh.,the details on the shoulder's updates this look in case there is any doubt about it's coolness factor. Great job office lady! And amazing job Little Hani for finding her!

Stripes and polka dots?

Oh YAY ! Cant decide between stripes or polka dots? Mix them both in, why not? Being a little schizo when it comes to patterns is a sure fire way to create a fun little outfit. If you are only SLIGHTLY schizo, then try sticking to the same base color palette like this lovely lady did. Since H&M, Topshop and Zara are saturated with awesome floral patterns and stripes this season, it's easy to get indecisive, so have some fun instead!

Work Chic

We all know how important it is to look good at work in Kuwait. Whomever tells you they buy the bulk of their fashion wardrobe at Jil Sander or Armani is prolly fibbing just a little. Take a cue from this little fashionista...dressed almost head to toe in highstreet which she pairs with some killer subtle bling. Serious high five to LITTLE HANI for just rockin my world with this post.
